WHAT TO EXPECT
A FEW REASONS WHY PEOPLE DON'T GO TO CHURCH
LOVE
God is literal, true, eternal, authentic Love. As we spend more time with Him, we become more like Him, and can love people the way He does. When you come to SECFMC, you become part of a family – the Father’s Family. It is this loving, family spirit that makes SECFMC a wonderful place to grow and serve God. We are committed to the Biblically stated reality that the overall pervasive nature of God is Love. 1 John 4:8.
SPIRIT-LED WORSHIP
We were created to be united with God in worship. It is through worship that we let go of the things that can drag us down, and take hold of the One who can lift us up. Here, we allow the Holy Spirit to lead and guide the direction of worship. All our individual expressions of worship are brought together corporately, and we unify to worship our God. Freedom and honor flow together in a beautiful mosaic of liberty. As one first time visitor stated, “This is beautiful. Everyone is doing their own thing, but they’re all together.”
A WORD FROM GOD
God still speaks to — and through – His people. In John 16:12, Jesus states that He desires to share so much with the disciples, but at that moment of hearing, they’re not equipped to bear it. The empowering of the Holy Spirit within the church fortifies them and us to receive the “more” that’s on His heart to release. It’s not adding to the Scriptures, but rather a clarifying and unveiling of all that has been hidden for us and not from us. At SECFMC, you’ll be challenged and ignited by the Word of God. You’ll be equipped and empowered to take what God speaks, and share it outside the church walls, releasing the life from within you to affect the world around you.
WHAT TO WEAR
We are a very casual church, and you will probably see more people in jeans than in suits. But if you would like to dress up that is fine too. Wear whatever you feel comfortable in.
SUNDAY SERVICES
Oh no not again. Did they just ask me to stand up? Sit down, stand up, sit down, stand up... which is it? Figuring out the position of worship can be challenging at times. Feel free to lift your hands, clap, stand up, or sit down. Be free to worship and not so concerned about body position. While the service structure is well defined and things are planned carefully, it is not unusual for changes to occur as the Spirit leads. We encourage you to participate as you are comfortable to. Worshiping God is a very personal experience, even in a group setting.
WE BELIEVE
SECFMC is a gathering of believers in Jesus Christ. We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. We believe that His death, burial, and resurrection has provided forgiveness and freedom from sin and restored man to his original purpose. We believe in the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit. We affirm that the Bible is the Word of God. We believe that Jesus is the most normal Christian in the Bible and that He is literal perfect theology. We believe that the highest priority is the Presence and Glory of God. We are given to the mandate of Jesus that the Kingdom and will of God would be manifest “on earth as it is in heaven”.
Historic Flint and Pere Marquette Railroad (F&PM) depot in Evart, Osceola County, Michigan. The depot was built in 1870's and has been restored by the City of Evart.
My desire as one called to serve the Lord Jesus as shepherd of the South Evart Free Methodist Church is to make God's Word clear so we can understand and grasp the truth that makes us free (John 8:32) and apply the principles of His lifegiving Word to our own lives. This enables us to grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus (2 Peter 3:18) and to be instruments of grace in His Hands, serving as living examples of God's love (Matthew 5:16) while drawing others to the cross of our Savior (2 Cor. 5:18).
